It’s been a while since I have made an outfit post on my blog. Things at school have been picking up, I have had some health issues, and it’s still freezing in NYC. But I’m back to give you some tips, or honestly give you one tip, on how to dress chic in the freezing winter. Whether you live in NYC, or some other cold city, you know it can be difficult to dress cute when it is 20 degrees outside (or worse 5 degrees!).
My ONLY tip to give is LAYERS! I’m sure you guys have heard about it before but it really is the best way to protect yourself from the cold. It’s all about layering.
I always wear a long sleeve shirt underneath all my sweaters. When the temperature is below 25 degrees, I even try to wear leggings or hose underneath my pants or denim.
For what kind of sweater is best? I always pick a sweater that has some thickness to it and is made of a good material that will keep me warm. I love going for a turtleneck when I am wearing a coat that has v-neck collar so I am protecting my neck.
For a coat, I typically gravitate towards my puffer because it has the best insulation and prevents the icy wind from blowing through the layers. BUT, if you are not wanting to wear a puffer coat (they aren’t the cutest things to wear), you can opt for a wool coat, preferably long so it covers some of your legs.
If you wear your layers correctly and maybe throw on a cute scarf(?) you can make winter chic with any kind of coat! My favorite coat is something that has a closure to the front so I can decide on whether or not how I want my outfit to look like and obviously keep warm. You could also opt for a teddy coat, they are thicker and fuzziness will keep you warmer. This coat is from H&M from a year ago and it is my favorite coat to go for when I want to dress up in the winter. The tie waist and the gorgeous beige color is the perfect piece to put together with a colorful sweater and a nice purse.
So there you have it, that is it! Just make sure your layers are in check and you should feel warm underneath any adorable coat.
