For the last couple of Wednesday trips, our center took us back to Florence to experience more art and architecture. There are three different day trips in this post, so I will start in order.

October 5

We visited the Uffizi Gallery and I got to see my two favorite paintings by Botticelli, one pictured below, called the Birth of Venus and the other called Primavera. I was so stunned by these gorgeous paintings that when I went to see Michelangelo’s most popular painting, I couldn’t concentrate. After spending the entire afternoon completely entranced by all of this beautiful art, a few friends of mine and I just walked around Florence enjoying the city life. We tried to see inside the church of Santa Maria Novella, but it was almost closing time, so maybe the next trip to Florence!

This trip to Florence was spent at the Galleria dell’Accademia museum to take about Michelangelo’s famous David Statue and others. The statue of David is so much larger than I imagined, it is truly a work of art! Afterwards, we met up with some of our friends from the Spain study abroad group who were vacationing in Italy for the week. We took them to see Michelangelo’s Laurentian Library and then ate at La Menagere for lunch. Before heading home, I grabbed some artist’s quality watercolors from Zecchi’s art store 🙂

November 23

This was my last week in Castiglion Fiorentino and my last Wednesday trip to Florence. On the way to the train station that morning, I noticed the vibrant yellow-gold color of the leaves on every tree in town. The leaves were glowing in the morning sunlight, I couldn’t help but capture the colors.

Our time in Florence was spent with another tour of the Galileo Museum to play with some trinkets and learn about Renaissance mechanisms. Afterwards, the afternoon was ours to cherish the last bits of this romantic, beautiful city. All the Christmas lights were going up in Florence and everybody was shopping! Towards the end of the day, I grabbed some Grom gelato and caught the beautiful sunset in front of the Duomo. It was truly magical! I will miss Florence the most 🙂
